Welcome to Lone Duck Farm! We are a family owned aquaponic farm providing great tasting, fresh greens year-round to individuals and restaurants in Southeastern, WI.

Fresh, Safe, and Delicious

Plants powered by fish? You bet! We use the nutrients provided by waste from tilapia and bluegill to grow some of the tastiest greens you’ve ever tried. We start with high-quality, antibiotic-free feed (and judiciously add some food grade supplements) to perfectly balance the nutrient load for the plants’ diverse needs. The plants soak up the rich water in our four deep-water culture beds with zero competition from weeds, and then we send the cleaned water back to our fish tanks. This keeps everyone happy, including the farmers, who are able to grow plants that reach harvest size in less time and with 95% less water than traditional, field-grown methods.

Worried about frequent, large scale recalls of fresh greens due to contamination? Our locally-based, closed loop, indoor systems means we can avoid many common points of contamination by design. We also follow FSMA and HACCP plans to keep the produce safe and clean until it reaches your door.

Our Practices

At Lone Duck Farm, we use beneficial insects and light, organically certified sprays as needed to keep the plants pest-free; we often start with herbal oils, such as mint, and spray as little as possible to get the job done. Two key factors that allow us to keep sprays to a minimum? A balanced nutrient load to maximize plant health and fast growing times- a faster harvest means less time for pests to settle in.

We also prioritize biodiversity in our choice of crops to plant- beautiful to look at, tasty to eat, and more restricting to bug populations. Our varieties are mainly sourced from smaller seed companies to make sure we offer the best variety of plants that grow well and that you can enjoy eating (and sharing). Our best form of marketing?
