About Us

Our Story
We are a small family farm located outside of West Bend, WI, on an old cream city brick homestead from the 1880’s. While the farm has had a long and storied history over the years (including a decade as an off-season racehorse retreat), today our farm hosts greenhouses for year-round growing.
A former mechanical engineer who loved keeping fish tanks as a child, Matt rolled his technical expertise and his childhood hobby into a career that keeps a sustainable future at the forefront of their decisions, something Elise’s background in nonprofits and childhood engagement fully supports. It’s never been JUST about the food (but you better believe the food is good, too).

Our Growing Environment
Choosing aquaponic growing means that we can deliver a high volume of fresh produce in a compact space, in addition to raising fish for a natural and local source of protein. In a changing world, it also allows us a great deal of control over our growing environment- droughts, heatwaves, cold snaps, and pests are all more manageable with an aquaponic system.
Additionally, closed-system greenhouses can be kept bio-secure, and choosing to buy from a small-scale, local producer means you don’t need to keep watch for another produce recall from a mega-farm.

Lone Duck Farm Today
Established in 2011, we continue to offer the same great flavors you’ve come to love—along with exciting new varieties. Whether you love the classics (like Elise) or you never say no to trying something new (Matt looks at the Baker Creek Seed Catalog like a kid in a candy store), we’d love to see how our farm can meet your culinary needs.
